What is it?
Zirconium oxide (or cubic zirconia) is a polymorphous crystalline substance chemically extracted from zirconium silicate and baddeleyite.
Properties
Thanks to its crystalline structure, it displays excellent mechanical resistance to stress and the following useful characteristics, making it valuable for a number of applications. This is the most elastic and robust technical ceramic, and therefore the least fragile: the elasticity and heat expansion coefficients are similar to those of steel.
Applications
Zirconium oxide offers exceptional properties. It is therefore an important material in a wide range of mechanical, electronic, nuclear and design applications. Moreover, zirconium oxide has no systematic toxicity, making it ideal for use in dentistry.
